Pentadesma initiative

Pentadesma butyracea is a perennial tree which reaches maturity in eight years and considered as a suitable species to replace palm oil and fulfill the need of fat for local needs. The Foundation promotes this plant as a conservation initiative and to enhance alternative income sources of local communities. The Pentadesma initiative has been introduced to the Foundation by Mr Hemal De Silva. He is an expert on this plant and an innovator of various Pentadesma fruit products. We have planted Pentadesma on our site and distributed the plants among communities. The Foundation observes their growth and guides the communities in extracting harvest towards preparing Pentadesma fruit products.
